Suspended installations

Along with arch designs, these will probably be the priciest item on your list of requirements and this is due to logistics, labour time and the amount of foliage/flower content needed.

We decorate ladders regularly in all sorts of ways, so the below is a simple guide; the actual fine design will be discussed with you at your consultation and will probably be based around images you provide to show us the kind of look you prefer (i.e. - some couples prefer a lot to trail below the ladder, others prefer the design to sit more atop, and which you choose will obviously govern the choice of fresh materials we use as different stem types have a different habit; rigid or bendy, stiff or floppy.... and this in turn can affect the cost). If you haven't already done so, search for images of ladder decorations that you prefer and bring them with you when we meet.

Here is a guide for price, based on 9ft (3m) ladders, which we've found is a common size amongst the local suppliers. If your ladders are different lengths the price will just adjust pro-rata based on the footage. This pricing structure can also be applied to a circular hanging chandelier, based on its external circumference.

If you have a few ladders, then multiply these prices up.

  • Trailing ivy only – from £150 (this can be dark green or variegated leaf). This design is non-hydrated with no structural mechanics. These are beautiful hung-grown lengths which provide long trails below the ladder and are very effective for the price. They self-cling and therefore are the cheapest option due to taking less time to install than other options which need 'tying in'.
  • A basic mixed foliage design - from £350. This design is non-hydrated with no structural mechanics. This means that the foliage is laid a-top the ladder to trail over the edges, and the ladder-rungs are still visible from below. The design is linear and limited to being 2-dimensional due to the lack of mechanics. Flowers can be added to this price on a per-stem basis (see below).
  • A luxury mixed foliage design – from £650. This design is with full-hydration and structural mechanics, allowing us to create a fuller & more opulent 3-dimensional feel, with the greenery styled both above and below the ladder, including height. Here the ladder itself becomes less focal and the fresh materials take centre stage. Again, flowers can be added to this price on a per-stem basis (see below).


- Minimal flowers, dotted through – add £300 per ladder
- More dense floral content – add £600 per ladder

  • If you like the idea of linear flowers hanging vertically below the design, this will incur an additional charge per stem due to the time it takes to string up every flower.
  • If you want a very flower-heavy look with minimal foliage, you would be looking at a price-tag of £2500 or more per ladder. The world is your oyster with flowers, and anything can be done but the cost increases exponentially.

We source our mixed greenery by working alongside what is available seasonally, so it could include varieties such as beech, birch, and other native Dorset species as well as more commercially grown types such as eucalyptus, ruscus, ivy etc, as an example.

Please note that we no longer use traditional flower foam due to its adverse impact on both human health and the environment. In addition, we avoid including any single-use plastics within our designs.

There are also several logistics to consider.

  • How high will the ladders be hung? We can only safely and legally go to a maximum hang-height of 3m. And we can supply our own A-frame ladders to get up there, which are included in the price along with full installation. If you want them hung higher than this, then they MUST be hung with a winch system in place, allowing them to be lowered for us to decorate them at floor height, and then raised back up once completed. To be honest, a winch is handy either way, saving both time and risk so do try to push for this with the ladder suppliers, if possible please.
  • Occasionally we can install them (or at least begin them) the day before, but only if they have a water source, which adds weight and complexity. Most of our ladder designs are made without hydration (a cheaper and less-weighty option) and therefore can only be done on the morning of the wedding. So, we will need access from early that day. Please check that this is feasible, and - if we do need to come in the day before to get started - please ensure this is possible with the venue staff too.
  • Due to the size of our ladders and the quantity of raw materials needed, an installation like this will usually warrant an additional van delivery to the venue. We charge per van-load, so bear this in mind.
  • Who will dismantle the ladder design? Most of our couples do this themselves, but you need to consider how you will get up there (especially if there is no winch in place, as we cannot leave our ladders on-site), responsibly disposing of the materials and - most importantly - your own safety. Some ladder-hire companies offer to remove the flowers/foliage (for an extra charge) when they remove the ladders, which may be a good option. Alternatively, we can come back to remove the installation, but we charge for this service, so just remember to factor in this cost.
